Minor updates continue with some graphics tweaks and design updates.

On the graphics side, the maps are now a bit darker with higher terrain returning to full brightness. This gives a slight subtle improvement to the feeling of depth and helps break up the maps with large areas of the same terrain like the tar (mud) map.

Grass terrain will now have drier areas where the colour fades out. Again this helps with variation in those maps covered in large grass areas.

Finally, a tilt shift is applied which blurs the terrain at the very top and bottom of the screen. Overall the effect is:

On design, there has been an overhaul of the weapon equipments. Going forward these will become more consistent.

At present the best use of a melee weapon is to place it on a ranged unit. The unit gains the option for a melee attack, and their ranged attacks also gain benefits from any other added conditions. This is not how I'd like it to work.

From now on, weapons equipment will be either:

1. a replacement primary weapon:

  • sets the units range stats to new values
  • can either modify or set the unit's damage stat
  • can add new Basic attacks
  • may include passive abilities that proc on attacks like Combo Attacks or Poison

2. a secondary weapon:

  • adds an attack ability with fixed range
  • can have fixed damage, multiplied damage or a damage increase
  • will always have a cooldown of at least 1 and will never be Basic
  • will never add conditions that proc on attacks. Instead any special effects go into the new attack ability.

All attack abilities added by weapons will come with a damage keyword, even if it is just Physical.

These changes should change the ideal targets for each weapon type. E.g.:

  • primary melee weapons: only for melee units
  • primary ranged weapons: for ranged units or melee glass cannons
  • fixed damage weapons: for supports or low damage tanks
  • secondary/damage modifying weapons: for melee beaters or ranged attackers
