Changelog: 16 May 2020

Development is back on, despite coronavirus lockdown getting in the way. Expect smaller updates (like this one) but they should be fairly regular again.

In this update one new champion has been added, but there has also been a fairly extensive change to the engine regarding how damage types are resolved.

Static Elemental

Design: Damage types
To date, when damage is applied the damage type is taken from a keyword on the ability or condition that caused it. For example, Basic Attack: Fire is the same as a normal Basic Attack but with the Fire keyword. Similarly, the Poisoned condition causes damage over time with the Poison keyword.

However issues arise with conditions that cause free attacks like Sentinel, Riposte, etc. These do not have a damage keyword and so always cause Physical damage.

The "standard" solution is for these conditions to use the damage type of their unit's Basic Attack. The problem is that this does not work for units without a Basic Attack or units with more than one Basic Attack.

The new design that is now live is to give every unit a damage type. This is a special keyword that is used whenever an ability or condition does not supply its own damage keyword. It is shown with a red background in the unit display.

Attack damage types
Basic Attacks with damage type (e.g. Basic Attack: Fire) will be removed. If a new attack ability with a specific damage type need to be added they will no longer be allowed the Basic keyword.

Generic versions of other attack abilities will be included. For example the Nova ability is an AoE damage attack around a unit that will use the unit's own damage type. However, the Anurine Bull will still have a specialised Sonic Nova (with the Sonic keyword) as the unit's default damage type is Physical.
